Who we are
We’re a family-run business, but who exactly are we?
Read on to find out more about Andy and Tracey, the couple at the helm of Cheviot Service And MOT Centre Ltd.
Andy
Andy was born and bred just up the road from Wooler at Nesbit with his parents, two brothers and his sister. From an early age Andy had an interest in motorbikes, in fact he got his first ever motorbike when he was only 3 or 4 years old! Through the years, his interest in engines grew as well as his interest in fabrication and welding, and at the age of 20 went to college to study Engineering, and went on to work for a number of car manufacturers.
At the age of 23, he moved down to Yorkshire to pursue his hobby of motorbike racing, even racing alongside the likes of Guy Martin and John McGuinness. While he was there he became a local mobile mechanic, working on any engines and vehicles ranging from lawnmowers, quad bikes, motorcycles, cars, vans, tractors and HGV’s.
Through his career he has had the privilege of working at Land Rover, Nissan and Rover, as well as being Workshop Manager and Diagnostic Technician at Jeep and Isuzu. He has also been a Workshop Foreman for a Prestige Car sales Dealership, and was also a Specialist for Morgan Cars.
In 2020, he returned to Northumberland and for a while lived at Ford. It was while he was here that he met Tracey, who lived in Berwick at the time and within a few years, they were engaged, married and Andy moved into the vicarage at Eglingham. Andy is now fulfilling his dream of owning and running his own garage.
Tracey
Tracey was born and bred just outside Newcastle, just down the road from St James’ Park - on a good day you could hear the crowds cheering when Newcastle United scored! She spent most of her life here until she moved to West Yorkshire in 2015.
Having completed a National Diploma in Business Studies and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Tracey felt a calling to be a priest. She trained for ordination at the College of The Ressurection, Mirfield, West Yorkshire, where the college community lived alongside a monastic community. In 2018, Tracey was ordained deacon, and in 2019 was ordained priest at Newcastle Cathedral - a place she has always felt was home.
She spent 18 months in Heaton, and 2 years in Berwick as part of her training. She had only been in Berwick when COVID struck, and spent most of the time getting to know people through walking her dog, Diesel. It was while she was here that she met Andy.
In 2022, Tracey moved to Eglingham to become Priest-in-Charge of the Benefice of Breamish and Till, overseeing the work of 6 churches across 4 parishes. This is a time-limited post which will come to an end in January 2026, Tracey will then be able to support Andy full-time with the garage.
Diesel and Dug - ‘The Dream Team’
These boys are the loyal labradors of Andy and Tracey. They are 2 completely different characters, and we can guarantee that when they’re around, there will always be mischief!
Diesel is 10 years old and was adopted by Tracey when he was only 4. For a while, he lived in Heaton with Tracey, and then moved to Berwick where his favourite walks were down at Little Beach and wandering along the pier in search of seals. He has a condition which has affected his eyesight, and is almost completely blind, but don’t let that fool you - he can smell and hear the opening of a treat tin from 10m away!
Dug is 4 years old, and is the guardian and excitable little brother of Diesel. Dug joined the family when Diesel’s eyesight started to deteriorate and Andy and Tracey felt that he needed a companion to help him. They certainly got more than they bargained for with Dug! His middle name should be ‘Mischief’, and he likes to be heard! He may look like he’s tough, but he loves nothing more than showering people with kisses, and snuggling up for cuddles.
